Stop-motion animation FAQs

Q: What is stop-motion animation?

A: Stop-motion animation is a series of still photos of a physical object, each slightly different, so that there appears to be movement when the images are played back in succession.

Q: How do I make stop-motion animations using an iPod® touch?

A: Using a stop-motion app called I Can Animate and the camera that's built into the iPod® touch 4g, a series of frames are captured and then played back as animation.

Q: How do I edit stop-motion animation using an iPod touch?

A: Export your animated movies from I Can Animate to the iPod's Camera Roll. Then open the iMovie app and import those movies and edit them as you wish.

Q: How do I add music and narration to my movie?

A: It's easy to add sound to your animation using the iMovie app. Record narration using the iPod touch's built-in mic. When you stop recording, the narration appears in the iMovie timeline. Music or sound effects stored on your iPod touch can be brought into the iMovie timeline.

Q: If I already own an iPod touch and a stop-motion app, why do I need ReadyANIMATOR Mobile?

A: The short answer is that ReadyANIMATOR Mobile makes stop-motion easy. It makes it easy to hold the iPod touch in place and position it as you like, and it makes it easy to quickly set up backdrops for your stop-motion animation.

Q: I want to use a webcam instead of the iPod touch. Is that possible?

A: Yes. Simply order your ReadyANIMATOR with the webcam arm instead of the iPod arm. We can provide a webcam as well. See animation equipment prices for details.

Q: What software do I need on my computer to grab frames from the webcam?
